I am a retired Business Education instructor and have been a Notary Public in Louisiana since 1999. My commission is for life with a yearly report with the Louisiana Secretary of State. Every five years to keep your commission active you are required to report to the Secretary of State your purchase of either another five year Bond or Errors & Omission insurance. Until 2003 I taught a class to assist people in passing the 5 1/2 hour Notary Public exam given at LSU which passing is required in order to be commisioned. My Notary Public experience includes loan closings, refinance, reverse mortgage, and I have worked for many different banks for various transactions including the opening of safe deposit boxes. In Louisiana a Notary Public is called a Non-Attorney Notary as a much wider jurisdiction is granted than in other states. My commission covers Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, West Feliciana, Livingston, Iberville, Pointe Coupe.
