I have worked in the legal field for over 27 years. I have been in the legislative field for the past 16. I took LA's standardized testing when the State went to that method in 2005. I was in the second class that took the test and one of 35 that passed. 250 took the test that December. As you know a LA Notary can conduct a great deal more business than notaries in other states. Because I took and passed the standardized Exam, it means that I can notarize anywhere in the State of LA. I live in the St. Francisville, area and work in Baton Rouge, so I routinely do signings in those areas. However if I have to go a distance of greater than 35 miles round trip I charge the standard IRS milage rate for that. However anything in between St. Francisville and Baton Rouge I do without mileage because I make that trip anyway. I work a regular job and so I prefer my signings to be after 5:00 p.m. I don't normally do closings on weekends and it would be at a higher rate. I am always very prompt, dressed professionally, and always present my identification so clients know that I am the person there to do the job.
